Orlistat

Orlistat is a medication designed to aid weight loss by reducing the amount of dietary fat absorbed in your intestines. It works by inhibiting lipase, an enzyme responsible for breaking down fat, thereby preventing approximately 25% of fat from being absorbed and allowing it to pass through bowel movements.

Additional Information:
  • Ingredients: Orlistat
  • Special Instructions: Take one 120 mg capsule with water during or within an hour after each main meal containing fat, up to three times daily. If a meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose should be omitted. A well-balanced, mildly hypocaloric diet containing approximately 30% of calories from fat is recommended. Daily intake of fat, carbohydrate, and protein should be distributed over three main meals. To ensure adequate nutrition, a multivitamin supplement containing fat-soluble vitamins should be taken once a day, at least two hours before or after taking orlistat, such as at bedtime.
  • Orlistat may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as oily spotting, flatulence with discharge, and frequent stools. These are generally mild and transient.
  • Patient Information Leaflet: Available inside the pack.
